The Village of Shorewood and the Wisconsin Department of Transportation selected GRAEF in the fall of 2007 to design the full reconstruction of 1.2 miles of E. Capitol Drive in the Village of Shorewood from Estabrook Parkway to Lake Drive All pavement, curb and gutter, and sidewalk will be replaced as part of the project. Streetscaping elements and street lights will also be incorporated into the proposed plan of improvement.
All pavement, curb and gutter, and sidewalk will be replaced as part of the project. Planned streetscaping enhancements consist of decorative crosswalks, additional street trees, curb side planters, and various amenities which include new benches, plant pots, and bike racks. Street lighting will be replaced with decorative poles that match the Oakland Avenue facilities. The project area includes six (6) signalized intersection with a seventh (7th) planned for the intersection of N. Murray Avenue & E. Capitol Drive. In addition to the roadway reconstruction work, the proposed plan of improvement includes a new pedestrian bridge along the Oak Leaf Trail that will also serve as a gateway entrance to the community. Innovative bio-filtration devices will be built as a means to clean stormwater run-off ultimately destined for the Milwaukee River.
